“In the courtroom, as in life, it's not about avoiding challenges, it’s about how we navigate them. Every challenge presents an opportunity to emerge stronger, wiser, and more determined.”

biography

education

I attended the University of Michigan, from 1982 to 1986, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan School of Business Administration, in Ann Arbor, with High Honors.  I then attended Wayne State University School of Law (“WSU”) from 1986 to 1989. While at WSU, I earned numerous scholarships and awards for being ranked No. 1 amongst all of my classmates. I also served as a Note and Comment Editor on W.S.U.’s prestigious Law Review and graduated in 1989, earning a Juris Doctor degree, with the Highest of Honors.

Work Experience

In 1988, I began my legal career with Honigman, LLP, Michigan’s preeminent business law firm. I represented Fortune 500 Corporations, as well as mid to small size corporations, and corporate executives and owners. After a successful career at Honigman, LLC, I decided to part ways an open my own private practice, Andrew J. Bean, P.C. For the last 32 years, I have continued to represent corporations and their owners as to a myriad of legal matters, all while also serving individuals and their legal needs. As a result of representing both corporations and individuals, I am well versed as to the tactics each “side” employs, which provides a significant strategic advantage to all of my clients, earning me the coveted Super Lawyer distinction in the State of Michigan.

In addition to my per-transaction representation of corporations, I currently serve as Outside General Counsel to several large and mid-size corporations, franchisors, franchisees, Federally Qualified Health Centers (community based health care clinics), construction and restoration firms, and one of S.E. Michigan’s largest elder care communities.

On the litigation side, I routinely appear in all Federal and state courts in Michigan, and the Federal courts in the Northern District of Ohio. I also provide representation as to matters pending in arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution forums, and matters pending before various governmental administrative agencies, including but not limited to the EEOC, the state and federal Departments of Labor, the Unemployment Insurance Agency, and the Michigan Department of Civil Rights to name just a few.

Background

I have been married to my high school sweetheart for the last 38 years and we have 3 incredible “children”. My, daughter, age 31, is also a U of M grad, holds a Master’s Degree, and is the founder/owner of Sandy’s Boutique, an upscale women’s fashion boutique in Ann Arbor. She is also a proud former founder/owner of a high end fitness studio in Ann Arbor. My son-in-law, age 32,  is a highly accomplished Creative Director for an industry leading sports apparel and equipment supply company. He too is a proud former owner of an elite fitness studio located in Australia. And finally, my son, Adam, whose biography is available below.

My “non legal” interests include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and cage fighting (I hold a Black belt in those activities), automobiles, boating, and spending time with my family and our two poodles, Louie and Arthur.

biography

education

I earned my B.A in Philosophy from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, graduating in the top 1% of my class. Immediately after graduation, I attended the University of Michigan Law School on a partial scholarship. While at the University of Michigan Law School, I served as an Editor on the prestigious Michigan Business and Entrepreneurial Law Journal, I was an Advanced Student Attorney for the Entrepreneurial Clinic, and worked as a Student Attorney for the Michigan Innocence Clinic.

 WORK EXPERIENCE

Upon graduation from the University of Michigan Law School, I accepted a full time Associate Attorney position at Honigman LLP, a nationally acclaimed firm based here in Detroit Michigan. There, I focused on various Corporate Law matters, quickly earning the trust of my superiors to handle the drafting and negotiating of various, complex agreements, including (but not limited to): SaaS Agreements, Royalty Share Purchase Agreements, Master Services Agreements, Statements of Work, Influencer Agreements, Terms of Service, Privacy Policies, Purchase Agreements (and all ancillary documentation), Defense Contractor Agreements, Independent Contractor Agreements, Supply Agreements, Employee Handbooks, and various corporate organizational documents.

While my time at Honigman LLP was extremely valuable, I was missing the deep client connection that inspired me to become an Attorney. Thus, I made the decision to leave Honigman LLP in January of 2024 and fulfill my life-long goal of joining my father’s private practice. Here, I bring my fresh, yet deeply nuanced perspectives and experience to our Corporate Law practice all while aiming to inject good into the lives of our clients.

 Background

Beyond my professional pursuits, my interests span a diverse spectrum that mirrors my passion for positivity. As both a tennis enthusiast and avid mountain biker, I intentionally cultivate joy and balance through outdoor pursuits. In addition, adding a touch of warmth and companionship to my life, going on long walks with my beloved four-legged canine companion, Arthur, is an integral part of my daily routine. These long walks provide me with the space to tap back into my Philosophy background and wonder about the future, encompassing topics like electric vehicles, space travel and artificial intelligence. Finally, as a Michigan native, a passion for automobiles runs deep in my veins—you can routinely find me with my father listening to Bob Seger while we wash our cars.
